Should I upgrade to Windows 11?

Windows 11, Microsoft’s new operating system, was released on October 5th, 2021 (earlier to those in the Windows Insider Program), and with it comes several new features that will improve your everyday life. Here are some reasons why you should upgrade:

Window 11 is faster and more efficient than any previous version

Windows 11 is faster because it runs on ARM architecture, instead of the outdated x86 architecture that Windows 10 uses.

ARM is the most popular processing platform for smartphones and tablets. Windows 11 has been customized to run efficiently on devices with ARM processors, taking advantage of their efficiency when running scaled-down applications. This customization still allows you to install your traditional desktop apps for maximum productivity!

The combination of these two best-in-class products results in incredible computing experiences optimized for each device form factor including laptops, tablets, convertibles, and Ultrabooks. Microsoft will continue to innovate for all three device types providing scaled experiences that assure fluidity across different hardware platforms while optimizing full app compatibility.

Windows 11 is designed to be efficient and fast. It has a new Start menu that allows you to quickly access your most used applications. The upgrade also includes a redesigned browser that makes it easier to find the information you’re looking for.

Window update is more secure than any of its predecessors

The Windows 11 new operating system update includes a ton of security features for Windows users, including a feature called Control Flow Integrity. Control Flow Integrity checks to make sure nothing harmful can alter trusted functions in the operating systems by tracking variables to make sure they don’t have any unintended consequences.

This type of update brings windows right up with other modern computer systems and guarantees that windows will be as secure as programmers can reasonably hope for it to be.

Windows 11 now comes with a secure boot capable TPM, which is designed to protect your computer against malware and other attacks. The TPM is a microchip that stores security information such as passwords, certificates, and encryption keys. With the secure boot capable TPM, you can be sure that your computer is safe from unauthorized access.

Windows 11 includes Microsoft Passport in the Windows Hello feature, allowing you to login easily and securely with a fingerprint or facial recognition; Windows Defender; and Windows Information Protection (WIP).

  • Microsoft Passport replaces passwords with physical devices that provide multi-factor authentication, like fingerprint scanners or cameras that can read your iris pattern
  • WIP is an app built into windows that separates work and personal apps on your system so that data from each doesn’t mix too freely
  • Windows Defender is windows’ built-in antivirus, one of the most secure antivirus applications on the market

These features combine to protect Windows users from all kinds of harm online, whether it is someone stealing their credentials or inserting malware onto their systems. This means Windows 11 is safer than Windows 10!

The Start Menu is back in Windows 11!

The menu has been redesigned to be more efficient and faster than ever before. You can quickly access your most used applications from the menu, and it also includes a redesigned browser that makes it easier to find the information you’re looking for.

The windows team has listened to its users and designed a product that is more intuitive for the average user while keeping the functionality of windows 10.

Microsoft Edge’s new rendering engine

Microsoft Edge is the default browser in Windows 11. It has a new rendering engine that makes it faster and more efficient than any of its predecessors. The new rendering engine allows you to view web pages the way they were meant to be seen, without all the extra clutter.

The new rendering engine in Microsoft Edge also includes features that make it easier to find the information you’re looking for. You can quickly access your most-used websites from the new start menu, and the browser has been redesigned to be more efficient and faster than ever before.

Snooze

Microsoft Edge has a new “snooze” feature that allows you to put articles on hold so that you can read them later. The “snooze” feature is perfect for those articles that you don’t have time to read now, but don’t want to forget about.

The “snooze” feature is easy to use. You can put articles on hold by clicking on the snooze button in the top-right corner of the window. The article will then be added to a list of articles that you’ve snoozed.

You can access your list of snoozed articles by clicking on the “snoozed” tab in the menu at the

Take notes

You can now take notes directly on whatever webpage you happen to be viewing and share those notes with friends via email or social media, all thanks to Microsoft Edge’s in-browser notepad! Plus it’s much faster than Internet Explorer and looks great too – we think it’s better in almost every way!

Improves Windows 10 live tiles

Windows 10 operating system introduced live tiles, which are a unique way of displaying information on your desktop. Live tiles are designed to be more efficient and faster than traditional icons. They allow you to access the information you need without having to open up a separate application.

Windows 11 live tiles are faster and more efficient than ever before. You can quickly access the information you need without having to open up a separate application.

Live tiles are interactive tiles that change depending on what’s happening in your life. For example, the Weather tile will show you the current weather conditions, and the calendar tile will show you your upcoming appointments. This makes it easier to stay on top of your life without having to constantly open different windows.

Upgrade digital assistant Cortana

Cortana is Microsoft’s virtual assistant and she’s better than ever in Windows 11. She is a voice-activated assistant that responds to questions and helps you to get things done. She can do things like track your flights, schedule appointments, and even tell you jokes! You can access her by clicking on the search bar on the taskbar.

With Windows 11 you can access Cortana right from your desktop, which makes it easy to ask her questions or get help with tasks. Cortana has also been updated with a new voice and personality, so she’s more engaging and fun to work with. Plus, she now has support for more languages, so you can communicate with her in your native tongue.

I bet you’re wondering, “What else can Cortana do?”

Well, she’ll work with applications like Maps or Calendar to access your information and assist you with making plans. For example, if you use the Weather app to check what it’s going to be like for your weekend away, just ask Cortana about the weather in that location. She will then display the details on your screen without having to open another program.

Cortana isn’t just about getting through your daily tasks though; she also helps protect your computer from viruses and other dangers lurking online. Stay safe by allowing Cortana to warn you when something risky is detected! This feature has already helped me avoid lots of nasty surprises while surfing the web.

Cortana is now available on the lock screen: You can now access Cortana without having to sign in to your computer. Just press the ⊞Windows key + C on your keyboard to open the Cortana window.

Windows 11 comes pre-installed with the updated Edge browser, which is not only faster but also offers more security. For instance, Cortana informs you if a certain site seems suspicious or has known viruses that could harm your computer. The windows update feature will now take place in the background, so you won’t have to worry about remembering to check for new windows features ever again!

Seamless integration with touch screen and mice/keyboards

One of the most important changes that Microsoft has made with Windows 11 is the way that it integrates with touch screens and mice/keyboards. With Windows 10, there were a lot of complaints about how the operating system didn’t work well with traditional input devices. Microsoft has addressed this issue by making changes to the user interface and how windows are displayed. The result is an operating system that is much more user-friendly and can be used on a variety of devices.

With Windows 11, you can easily navigate through your files and folders by tapping them on the screen. In addition, you can now use touch gestures to quickly execute common commands. For example, you can swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Start menu, or pinch to zoom in and out of photos and web pages.

Windows 11 updates calendar and email apps

Windows 11 features an updated calendar that is more user-friendly and customizable. You can now view your calendar in a weekly or monthly view, which makes it easier to plan out your day or week. The new calendar also includes a “to do” list, which can help you keep track of your tasks and deadlines.

You can now create events that recur on a weekly or monthly basis, which is handy if you have a busy schedule. Additionally, you can now invite other people to your events and see their availability right in the calendar app. This makes it easy to find a time that works for everyone.

Windows 11 has a brand new email app that is faster, more secure, and packed with cool features that will improve your everyday life for many years to come.

Update Photos, Video, and Music apps with Windows 11

Windows 11 comes with updated versions of the Photos, Video, and Music apps. These apps have been redesigned to be more user-friendly and are now packed with features that will make your life easier.

The Photos app has been updated in Windows 11 with a new layout that makes it easier to find the photos that you’re looking for. You can now view your photos in a timeline or album view, and you can quickly access your favorite photos by using the “Favorites” tab. The Photos app also includes support for Live Photos, which allows you to create moving photos by recording a short video clip.

It is now possible to select print sizes up to 292 x 215″ at 300 dpi. The scaling interface has also been improved, with the ability to switch between 100%/200%/300% sizing. This feature makes it easy to preview your image in any size you want without having to resize it manually or losing quality in the process.

The Video app has also been updated with a new layout and improved support for 4K videos. You can now watch videos in the theater mode, which allows you to watch them full screen and with subtitles. In addition, you can now record your videos from the Windows taskbar!

The new Windows 11 music app has been updated with a ton of new features that are sure to improve your listening experience. The app now includes a personalized radio station that will play music based on your tastes. You can also create custom playlists, share music with your friends, and more!

Updated Microsoft Store including Android app integration

The Microsoft Store has been improved as well, so you can quickly find all of your favorite apps in one place. You can filter through the list of apps by selecting one of the categories at the top, or by going to View all.

Under “App Name” you’ll see a list of recommended apps based on your previous downloads and app usage habits. This is a great way to discover new things without wasting time searching for them!

You can also now download windows apps from the Microsoft Store directly onto windows 10 mobile devices – no more waiting for a windows phone to be released before downloading a windows app.

The Microsoft Store also has universal windows apps, which allow developers to create an app that works on Windows 11, Windows 10, windows phone 8.1, and the Xbox One!

In addition to this, Windows 11 has added an integrated search tool so that you can quickly find what you need from right within Microsoft Store: just start typing in your query and choose from the autocomplete options once they pop up. To activate this, go to windows store and click on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right-hand corner.

Windows 11 built-in app recommendations

In Windows 11 Microsoft has included a feature whereby you can customize your start menu based on what apps you’re interested in. For example, if you like using Spotify but hate using Skype, then windows will recommend suitable windows 10 alternatives for other apps that you may not have downloaded yet such as Groove Music or Discord.

Universal Windows app platform

The Universal Windows app platform enables developers to build one windows app that can run across all Windows devices including phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, and even Xbox One.

This means that you don’t have to download different versions of an app for your phone and tablet: it also helps reduce storage space and memory usage on both your device and Microsoft’s servers since only one version needs to be developed and stored for it to work on any Windows device.

The update process is simple too: when a new universal Windows app update becomes available for your system, Windows 11 will automatically download and install it – if you don’t want windows to do this, follow the steps below.

If the windows app you’re using doesn’t support Windows 11 then Windows might notify you that an updated version is available and offer to download and install it for you: just follow the prompts and windows will take care of the rest.

To turn Windows update on:

  1. Open windows update by clicking on the Windows icon in the lower left-hand corner of your screen > Check for updates (make sure Automatic windows updates are switched on as well as Show me preview builds).
  2. Once it has finished downloading and installing any new updates, go back into settings > System > Updates & security > Advanced options.
  3. Under advanced options, there should be a message that windows is configured to automatically download windows updates.
  4. Under windows update settings, uncheck the box labeled Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update windows.
  5. Click Apply > OK.

Microsoft Store now has more apps (over 50,000) for you to download. These apps cover a wide range of uses including social media, studying, and even games. You’ll be able to manage all of these apps through the new Microsoft Store, which is faster and easier than ever before!

Android apps

One of the most interesting new features is the ability to run Android apps side-by-side with traditional Windows programs. This will be a huge boon for business users who need to access Android apps for work but don’t want to have to switch between windows or carry around two separate devices.

Windows has been playing catch-up with macOS in recent years, and this integration of Android apps is another sign that Microsoft is determined to stay ahead of the curve. The company has also been working on developing its suite of cross-platform apps that will work on both Windows and Android devices, which should make it easier to switch once you are used to the windows interface.

My people app update

My People is an app in Windows 11 that lets you pin your favorite contacts to the taskbar. It has been updated with a new design and a few new features. Now, you can pin more people to the My People app, and you can also share files and photos with them.

Windows Command Bar update

The windows command bar has been updated: Command Prompt has been updated with an all-new design for Windows 11 Anniversary update, bringing it more in line with windows file explorer windows. Enhanced security features have also been added to the windows command prompt, allowing IT admins to configure settings to block executables from running when opening windows command scripts.

Text selection has also been improved in windows command prompts. You can now select text using the mouse or touchpad without any issues!

Command Prompt was updated with a new windows file explorer windows theme. In windows 10, windows command prompt windows shared the same windows file explorer windows theme as desktop windows: this was confusing for users who thought that Command Prompt is a Windows shell and it also meant that there were two different themes in use on the same system.

Also, Command Prompt now uses smaller font sizes by default (similar to Notepad) and you can configure Command Prompt’s font size to make the text easier to read. You can do this by right-clicking the title bar > select Defaults > select a font size that suits you.

Finally, windows command prompt windows now support configurable word wrap. You can configure this by right-clicking title bar > Options > Word Wrap.

You can also now change the windows command prompt windows color scheme to suit your preferences! This is particularly useful if you are required to use windows command prompts for work purposes and would like them to match the corporate windows theme (which typically uses black cmd windows). To do this in Windows 11, right-click title bar > Colors: here you can choose between default (white text on black background) or White with black text (black text on white background). Window borders will remain unchanged, however.

Windows Ink

Another great new Windows 11 feature is windows ink. Windows ink allows you to write on windows systems with digital pens, similar to how people write on paper with pencils or regular pens. Users can handwrite notes in windows apps like Microsoft Word, doodle on windows screens, and even sign documents without the need for any specialized equipment.

Using windows ink in Windows 11 is super easy too! Just click the windows button to open up all your windows applications, find the Microsoft Store app, and select the windows pen option. From there, just use your digital pen to doodle away!

Microsoft Teams facelift and tighter integration

One of the most notable changes is the integration of Windows 11 with Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams is a communication platform that allows for team collaboration in real-time. With the integration of Windows 11 and Microsoft Teams, users will have access to all their files and applications from one place, making it easier to get things done. Additionally, the new version of Microsoft Teams includes a host of new features, including:

– A chatbot that can help you with tasks such as scheduling meetings or finding files

– An improved desktop experience that makes it easier to work with windows open at the same time

– A “Do” button to help you keep track of what you’ve done and start doing things with a single click

– Real-time machine translation makes collaboration easier regardless of your team’s location

Improved Xbox like gaming

A slew of features that will improve gaming on Windows 11. For example, the new OS will include auto HDR and DirectStorage features. These enhancements are designed to improve the gameplay experience for users and make it more seamless. In addition, Windows 11 will also include several other features that are aimed at making your life easier. For example, there is a new task view that will make it easier to manage your windows, and you can also now snap windows in four different ways.

New snap layouts and snap groups in Windows 11. Snap layout allows you to quickly and easily resize windows to take up the entire screen, or just part of it. You can also have multiple windows open at the same time and quickly switch between them.

With snap groups in Windows 11, you can now group windows by topic or task. This makes it easy to keep everything organized and find what you need when you need it. For example, you could have a group for work-related windows, one for personal windows, and one for entertainment windows. No more shuffling through windows to find the one you want!

Windows 11 is coming out with a new feature that will allow your computer to take HDR photos without any extra hardware. This means that you’ll be able to get the best possible photos with your computer, without having to purchase any extra hardware or software. HDR photography can be tricky, but Windows 11’s auto HDR mode will make it a breeze. Most windows computers have the hardware necessary for this feature, but it won’t work unless you upgrade to windows 11. You can also get windows phones that are capable of taking HDR photos, so upgrading will give you the full benefits of the auto HDR option.

This Windows 11 feature allows you to store your files directly on your device instead of using traditional storage methods like a hard drive or flash drive. This makes accessing and saving your files much faster and easier. Plus, it’s a great way to keep your data secure!

Improved virtual desktops support

Windows 11 operating system includes virtual desktops support, which is a feature that allows you to run multiple desktops at the same time. This is perfect for people who want to work on multiple projects at the same time, as it helps you to keep your work organized. The windows will be displayed in a virtual space, and you can move between them using the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Improved multitasking and transitions from laptop to monitor

Windows 11 is packed with features that will improve your multitasking and transitions between laptop and monitor. With the new Task View, you can now see all of your open windows at once and easily switch between them. Plus, if you’re working on a project and need to reference another document or website, you can easily snap windows to the side of the screen so both windows are visible at the same time. This makes it easy to copy and paste text or images between windows.

Windows 11 also makes it easier to connect to external monitors. If you have a secondary monitor connected to your laptop, you can now extend your desktop onto that monitor. This is perfect for presentations or when you need more screen real estate for editing documents or watching videos.

Better control over Windows Updates

As we all know, Microsoft likes to release new updates for its Windows operating system regularly. While this can be annoying for some users who just want things to stay the same, it’s also important to keep your system up-to-date with the latest security patches and features. With Windows 11, you’ll have more control over when and how these updates are installed. This means that you can choose to install them when it’s most convenient for you, without having to worry about them taking up too much of your time or causing any disruptions.

Adobe Creative Cloud support

With this feature, you can access all of Adobe’s creative software tools from one place. This includes popular tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Plus, you can access these tools on any device- whether it’s your computer, phone, or tablet. So no matter where you are, you’ll have access to your favorite Adobe tools all in one spot. Do remember to see the list of all known bugs with Adobe Creative Cloud in Windows 11.

Built-in Entertainment

Windows 11 also has built-in entertainment options. You can stream video right from your desktop using Microsoft’s Xbox live service, where users are given free games every month and can even link their Xbox account with their windows phone for cross-compatibility of videos across devices.

Widgets

A Windows 11 widget is a great way to keep you organized and on track. With this handy tool, you can have all of your important windows functions right at your fingertips. From keeping track of your calendar to managing your files, this widget can do it all!

Windows 11 includes several different widgets that you can use to improve your productivity or just have some fun. The Windows taskbar has been redesigned with a new widget that allows you to see your calendar and upcoming events at a glance. This is perfect for people who need to stay organized and keep track of their schedules.

There is also a new weather widget that allows you to see the current weather conditions and forecast for your area. You can even add multiple locations so you can keep track of the weather in multiple places.

The Microsoft Store also includes a new widget that allows you to browse and purchase apps and games without having to open the store app. This is a great way to quickly find and download the apps you need without having to search the store.

Hidden features in Windows 11

These built-in Windows 11 features can assist you in accomplishing a variety of tasks, including setting up Taskbar shortcuts and conserving battery life. Microsoft does not generally advertise its undocumented capabilities in the same way that Apple does. Though challenging to figure out how to use them, let’s try:

Alternative ways to open the Start menu

You may recall since Windows 7, the easiest way to get to the Start menu is by pressing the ⊞Windows key + X on your keyboard or clicking on the Start button at the bottom left corner of your screen. However, under Windows 11, there is a lesser-known second Start menu that makes accessing crucial features like the Command Prompt, Control Panel, and Task Manager much easier. You can use two methods to get there: either press ⊞Windows key + X or right-click the Windows icon/Start button.

As computers get short on space, they begin to run slower. Getting rid of programs that take up more disk space than they should be used is a quick way to speed them up.

Windows 11 may offer cleanup recommendations if you tap Cleanup recommendations; this will show you what Windows 11 advises you to remove. You’re probably not going to get rid of your browser, but you could discover an app that you haven’t used in a long time and free it up.

To see a complete list, tap Show more categories under Settings > System > Storage. To learn how much storage applications, temporary files, and documents are taking up, go to Settings > System > Storage and select Show more categories.

Lots of ways to take a screenshot

Yes, it’s a simple one, but I’m amazed at how easy it is to forget how to take a screenshot on your laptop or desktop when you don’t use it regularly.

It’s simple to take a screenshot with Windows 11. Hold down the ⊞Windows key and the Print Screen keys at the same time, and your entire screen will be captured and saved to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

To capture just one section of the screen in Windows 11, press the ⊞Windows key + Shift + S to launch a program called Snip & Sketch, which lets you click and drag to take a screenshot that gets saved to your Clipboard.

Pinned items shortcuts

This feature was removed from Windows 10 and many users were disappointed, but it’s finally back in Windows 11!

Here’s how to open pinned items in Windows 11:

  1. Click on the Start Menu and select All Apps.
  2. Scroll through the list of apps until you find the one you want to open.
  3. Right-click on the app and select Pin to Start.
  4. The app will now be pinned to your Start Menu for easy access.

You can also move pinned items around and create your folders to organize them.

Ability to do background scrolling for multiple windows

Windows 11 offers a convenient way to scroll through windows at the same time.

To enable this feature:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to System > Multitasking.
  3. Under “Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them”, turn on the toggle switch.
  4. Click OK.

Now, every time in Windows 11 that you hover over an inactive window, it will automatically scroll so that you can keep track of what’s going on. You can also select the number of windows you want to be able to view at the same time.

Let’s say you’re working on a project and also researching something. You can easily open windows from both projects and scroll through them.

Minimize all windows but currently active window

Windows 11 comes with a great new feature that minimizes all windows except for the one you’re currently using. This is helpful if you have a lot of windows open at once and want to focus on one in particular. To activate this feature, just press the ⊞Windows key + M on your keyboard.

Another great new feature is the ability to see what windows are open and which windows you have minimized just by looking at your desktops. This speeds up workflow if you’re using a Windows-based laptop because now you don’t need to cycle through open windows just to get back to the one you’re using.

To save battery, stop running background apps.

Under Settings > System > Power & Battery tap Battery saver, you’ll see a list of apps that are currently running in the background. If you scroll to the bottom of the list, you’ll see an option to Shut down background apps.

If you choose this option, Windows 11 will close all apps that are running in the background – including those that may be draining your battery. This can help extend your battery life if you’re not using those apps.

Ability to mute audio from one app without muting all apps

Windows 11 comes with a great new feature that allows you to mute audio from one app without muting all apps. This is helpful if you have a lot of windows open at once and one app is playing audio that you don’t want to hear. To activate this feature, just press the ⊞Windows key + M on your keyboard.

A new “Night Light” mode that reduces blue light from your screen at night

This is helpful if you’re using your computer late at night and don’t want the blue light to keep you awake. To activate this mode in Windows 11, just press the ⊞Windows key + I on your keyboard to open the Settings app. Scroll down and select System > Display. Under “Night Light”, turn on the toggle switch. You can then adjust the settings to fit your needs.

Windows 11 built-in Analytics

Windows 11 includes built-in analytics that allows you to see how your system is performing. This is a great way to troubleshoot any problems that you may be having and to make sure that your system is running as smoothly as possible.

To access the Windows 11 analytics:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to System > Diagnostics & feedback.
  3. Under “Windows diagnostic data”, turn on the toggle switch.
  4. Click OK.

Now, you can see all of the diagnostic data that Windows 11 is collecting from your system. You can also choose to send this data to Microsoft if you want help troubleshooting problems or if you want to contribute to Windows development.

Finally, if you’re not sure how it’s going with your blogging, check out Windows 11’s built-in analytics feature which will tell you what viewers are looking for in terms of content and design so that you can make improvements where necessary: go to Settings > Privacy, click on Feedback & diagnostics and then Diagnostic and Usage data under Related settings. You can see what platforms people use (e.g. Windows 11, Android) and how they use them (e.g., what are the most popular Google searches). This information is useful to improve your site in terms of design, layout, or even content.

Built-in Microsoft account

Windows 11 comes with a built-in Microsoft account that allows you to sign in and access all of your Microsoft services. This is helpful if you’re already using a Microsoft account and don’t want to create a new one.

To sign in to Windows 11 with your Microsoft account:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Accounts > Sign in with a Microsoft account.
  3. Enter your email address and password.
  4. Click OK.

Now, you can access all of your Microsoft services – such as Outlook, OneDrive, and Xbox Live – from within Windows 11.

So, should I upgrade to Windows 11?

If this sounds like something that would interest you then we recommend upgrading! Especially considering it is a free upgrade. Just remember to back up all of your important files because there may be some issues after the free upgrade which Microsoft will fix in due course.

You will also need to consider any applications that you rely upon and we recommend checking if they’re compatible with Windows 11 before you do the upgrade.

Upgrading Windows for your business?

So, why wait? Your users will be glad you upgraded if the following is true:

  • They use Microsoft services.
  • They are looking for a change but don’t want to stop using their current OS.
  • They want their desktops and laptops to run faster, be more secure, and have many cool features.
  • They want to save time and money by having all of their files accessible in one place.

If this is not true then perhaps upgrading to Windows 11 would not be in your best interest!
