Tom Fowler

What are your current responsibilities at

I work as the Security Manager for My primary responsibilities are to ensure the operational security and compliance for all internal XL.Net systems. I ensure XL.Net adheres to ISO standards, internal alignment goals, and industry best practices. I also execute information security-related client projects.

What do you like the most about working at

My favorite part about my job is undoubtedly the people that I work with. I have the utmost respect for my colleagues’ abilities, sure, but I have even more respect for the way that they approach challenges and come together when things get tough as opposed to drifting apart. We really are a team here, in every sense of the word, and it makes coming to work every day something to look forward to.

How do you enjoy spending your free time?

I have a passion for music. Outside of IT, it’s the fuel that drives me. I have played guitar for 20+ years and have been the Audio Director at my church for 5 years. Additionally, I love learning new things. I don’t sit idle well, so I’m always completing trainings and learnings in my free time, as well as keeping up to date with the latest in the tech world.

What is something about you that not a lot of people know?

My first college degree had nothing to do with tech at all. I hold a BA in Philosophy with a focus in Epistemology. I wanted to be an attorney, and someone told me that would be the best thing to study. I ended up liking Philosophy more than Law, and Tech more than both of them.
